The Bizarroid Trilogy

Summary

The Bizarroid Trilogy is a middle grade fantasy series written by Nolan Seel.

The series takes place on the island of Divid, which is split into two halves: Normalis, where humans live, and Bizarria, which is home to the Bizarroids, a group of unusual creatures that come in many different species.

The series stars Rosalind, a Bizarroid resembling a dog/caterpillar hybrid. She hatched from her egg in Normalis, alone, and she doesn't know how she got there. She befriends two humans, a boy with autism named Pascal, and a young woman with ectrodactyly named Kathryn. They team up to fight the Scumleeches, an army of evil, slimy creatures who aim to conquer the island.

Rosalind, Pascal, and Kathryn all start out as outcasts, but they find comfort in each other's friendship. Together, they explore the island, meeting friends and foes and learning more about the island's history as they search for a way to stop the Scumleeches. They must also deal with King Silverforge V, the ruler of Normalis, who has his own plans for conquest.

Characters

Themes

This series features multiple characters with mental and/or physical abnormalities. These characters may be bullied by their peers, but they are still just as worthy of love as anyone else, and they are still capable of being heroes.

Inclusion
Free Will

This series explores the power of choice. Everyone makes important choices at some point, and while we have the freedom to choose, not all decisions are good ones. Some can have bad impacts on other people. Still, it's better to have free will than to have that freedom taken from you, like the Scumleeches do when they possess people.

Content

The series is recommended for middle grade readers.

Some scenes may be frightening or intense for younger readers.

Violence is mostly kept at a family-friendly level. The Scumleeches suffer lots of injuries, but they are made of green slime and can easily recover from most attacks. There are some mentions of non-human blood and scars. One human character breaks an arm in Book 1, but it is not described in graphic detail.

The series has no profanity or obscene content.

Kindness

The series stresses the importance of being kind not only to your friends, but even to those who are unkind to you.
