Rosalind is a dog/caterpillar hybrid creature who lives as an outcast in the human kingdom of Normalis. She doesn’t know what she is or where she came from, only that the humans have dubbed her “The Pink Pest.” While scrounging for food one day, she accidentally lets an army of Scumleeches—evil, slimy creatures that possess people by biting them—into a human village.

Rosalind manages to rescue only one villager from the Scumleeches: an autistic boy named Pascal. Pascal wants to find a way to defeat the seemingly invincible Scumleeches, while Rosalind just wants to find a place to hide from them. The two of them explore Normalis in hopes of achieving at least one of their goals while being pursued by three Scumleech minions: Lurk, Leery, and Lug. Rosalind could take Pascal to Royalhaven, the so-called safest town in Normalis, but it's home to the land's fearsome ruler, King Silverforge V, who wants to capture Rosalind as part of a nefarious plan. Perhaps they can get some help from Kathryn, Rosalind's human friend with ectrodactyly (cleft hands)?

In this comedic fantasy adventure, Rosalind and Pascal go on a whirlwind tour of Normalis, learn about their island’s tumultuous history, and discover the truth about Rosalind's species, all while struggling against both the Scumleeches and King Silverforge. This is the author’s debut novel and the first in a trilogy.
